Hi.

Welcome!

December 12th: Backyard Soccer and Snorkeling

December 12th: Backyard Soccer, Snorkeling Well, I got up in time for an 8:30 excursion, much to the shock of Andrea who figured I’d be hungover.  I’d evidently saved my liver for the last 15 years just for that day.  Anyway, we went on a Mayan adventure!  We visited an ocean inlet, and open cenote, and a closed cenote (a lake inside a cave!!!) It was SO cool!  I had trouble maneuvering the flippers in the ocean inlet, but I saw so many beautiful fish, including Dory!  I loved the yellow and blue fish too.  We also saw one jelly fish, which made me think, “ooooh” and then “don’t get too close.”  We swam a LOT looking in the inlet, maybe a mile.  My nose was all congested, but then it didn’t matter as I was supposed to breathe through the snorkel anyway.  After the ocean inlet, we did the open cenote.  That was a very different environment.  The water was full of algae, and the fish were all tiny and cute.  If you sat still on the dock, they’d come nibble the dead skin off your feet.  We saw people paying for pedicures like this in the airport, but it felt way too weird to me.  It got me moving off the ladder into the chilly water though.  The closed cenote was even colder!  We saw catfish in there, and bats!  The formations of the cave were so beautiful, it was like being in a different world.  We ate a yummy lunch!  Tacos =)  I had so many different kinds of tacos on this trip and they were all delicious!

We did a little souvenir shopping, and I got the kids dresses, shirts, and little turtle necklaces.  Plus I found beautiful shells on the beach and a beach rock that got me stopped at customs.  And we got to visit a bit with Aisha!

That evening we visited the Mayan restaurant, and Mayan food is also very delicious.  Some kind of slow cooked pork with citris taco was the main course.  Yum.

While I was swimming in the ocean, the kids were bundled up in their heavy coats playing soccer outside!  Maia was wearing a princess nightgown and her fur coat, but she never wanted to come inside!  She loves soccer! =)
