December 10th: Mama in Mexico, kids find Candy Canes and go Roller Skating I left really early in the morning to fly to Mexico for Aisha’s wedding! Maia decided she couldn’t send Mama off without any snuggles, and woke up about 4am asking for me, which she hasn’t done in quite a while. So she snuggled in bed with me for 20 minutes, until my alarm went off, and then she gave me a kiss, waved bye-bye, and snuggled into Eric to go back to sleep.
When the kids woke up, they discovered our annual Candy Cane Hunt! We do this every year, and it is one of just two traditions that Donovan specifically asked for. I find this hilarious, as they have never yet EATEN the candy canes. They just like the hunt! This year though, I bought lifesavers candy canes, so I have hopes that they may eat them. Eric texted me pictures of the hunt, and Maia was saying: “Let’s keep looking” and “Woo, it’s so beautiful!”
Later in the day Maia went to Aunt Jennifer’s house while Eric took the other kids to Lorelei’s party. Evidently, Maia really loved Forrest this visit. She laid down right next to him and said, “What’s the matter boy? It’s ok, I love you!” The big kids (especially Eric) LOVED roller skating! Donovan even asked for roller skates! Eric told him we should probably wait until spring for those, but it’s pretty cool!
Meanwhile, I was flying to Mexico with Andrea! It was SO wonderful to get to see her, Doris, Aisha and Kevin on this visit! Plus Aisha’s family, including her Dad whom I’d never met. And I always love seeing Emily and Sasha =) And all of Aisha’s friends were a lot of fun! We met Doris and Saurabh at the airport successfully, and made it to our resort easily! It’s really pretty easy to get to Playa del Carmen. And the weather was so beautiful! 80’s in December! It was supposed to rain while we were there, which caused us all consternation with the wedding the next day, but although it was wet as we arrived, it never rained again the whole visit! And the resort was so nice! I had margaritas and mojitos and a mudslide and a pina colada… in the same day. So many frosty beverages to taste =) And Aisha’s rehearsal dinner had Indian food in the buffet, bliss. All the food was amazing, especially the breakfasts with Mexican hot chocolate, bread just like I remember getting in Mexico as a child, and the French toast =)
