It was a perfect snow day for me because no one had to go anywhere. Even Eric worked from home today, so I didn't have to worry about roads or slipping around on ice. It was so cozy, bundled up in my comfy purple robe drinking chai tea and watching while the kids and Eric built a snow turtle in the morning =) Just a lovely day! So thankful we were all home and warm and safe.
We started the day with our traditional Candy Cane Hunt. I got different colored candy canes for each child, and Eric did all the hiding. He found some really tough spots for Serenity. She actually had to look high this year, even on the light fixture in the dining room. The real shocker for me was that she could REACH these candy canes! She's so big! Donovan did a good job finding his, although Serenity gave him hints now and again. He liked holding all his candy canes in a little bouquet, and then Serenity picked hers back up too. They love this activity. Serenity hid the canes for Donovan again later in the day. I think this is the first year any of the candy canes have really been eaten. I got fruity flavors and they tried several of them!
We did all my favorite snow activities. The kids built the snow turtle with Eric, using my snowman kit for the second year in a row! Serenity made a beautiful snow angel. We also had another new record this year, both the kids stayed outside for longer than it took to bundle them up for the snow!!! And they went out THREE times! After the second outing we made snow ice cream. It made Donovan very giggly. "I have snow in my MOUTH!" Then, when they asked to go out again, I filled squirt bottles with food coloring and water for snow paint. Finally a use for that pint sized bottle of blue food coloring I accidentally got from Amazon for Serenity's birthday. =) Donovan even slid down the snowy slide =) They've used every glove, sock, coat and fuzzy pant that we have. It's all in the dryer for tomorrow's snow adventures!
Now they're snuggled up having pirate and popcorn time on the couch. Such a great day! I am picking up the house and getting supplies set out in case anyone can make it over here tomorrow for the Ornament Party. We'll see what things are like in the morning!
Late last night Eric helped me get Starfish's corner nursery set up =) We put together the cradle, put on sheets, hung pictures, and did some more laundry. Now if I just figure out where to put all the piles of things on the floor, we'll be good to go. When the snow is gone! Stay put for a few more days Starfish!
