Hi.

Welcome!

Back to School

Back to School!!! IMG_1477

Serenity has been back in school for a month now.  We're getting back in the swing of things.  =)  Her new class has some different rules, which she's getting used to.  If you break the rules, your name goes on the board, and you may have to sit out at recess.  She really doesn't like that, so it seems to be a good consequence.  She tells me so much more about her school days, I just love it!  Even when she gets in trouble, she tells me all about it.  One day she told me she got too interested in the model of the body in science and got her name on the board because she grabbed it, and Mrs. Foster confirmed that's just about what happened. =)

She's getting a lot of practice in handwriting, which is wonderful!  Every Friday we have a homework paper.  There's a letter of the week, and she comes up with several words.  I say we have homework because I have to write the words in yellow marker for her to trace.  And every time I have to get out the D'Nealian chart to make sure I write them correctly.  My handwriting is so bad, but maybe I'll improve!  So far she loves her homework page and does a fairly good job.  Her letters are still shaky, so all the practice will build up those muscles quickly!

First Homework!

She loves Kumon, which is the math system they use.  So far it's mostly more tracing and line drawing, to get them to the point that they can write numbers and such.  But she had a few Kumon workbooks thanks to Aunt Kelly and so she feels she's on Team Kumon and likes it. =)

One of the fun new things they've added this year is geography.  They study a state to go along with the letter each week, and Serenity comes home teaching us all about the state flowers, birds, capitals, and other interesting facts.  Exciting!

She loves seeing her friends at school, and seems to love everybody.  She tells me about soccer with Rachel, playing pretend with Lorelai and Harper, and holding hands with Sophia.  We have dance class with Wren and Harper, and they always stick together in the class and greet each other with shrieks of joy.  =)  SO cute.

Just before we started back to school, Serenity told me, "I just want to stay home with you every day."  Broke my heart because I miss her when she's at school, but even on the first day, once she was at school, she ran into her class (straight into Lorelai's arms) and never looked back.  She's amazing, so confident, friendly and sweet.  She even says good morning without being reminded to people as she passes them.  One day, she even asked Ms. Parent how her day went!  Hurray!  I'm so glad that she loves school, and that she has such a great place to learn.

Oh, I don't think I posted the back to school party pics!  This year's theme was Back to School Blast!  I made a big rocket out of cardboard, and we made jetpacks out of 2 liter bottles.  (Finally, I think I've had this project pinned for a year and a half!)  We also made straw rockets, which I found really entertaining.  =)  I made moon sand, so there was more sandbox fun.  I think the kids favorite thing was the stomp rocket launcher.  We managed to keep enough rockets to make it through the party, although the kids lost them shortly afterwards so I had to get a refill.  =)  It is always so much fun to get to see Serenity with her school friends, and I LOVE visiting with other parents!  The kids eventually went upstairs and started playing pretend cats, so after the party Serenity started planning her Tiger Playdate.  She even made invitations, so I guess I should get busy with that. =)
