12/23: Christmas Eve Eve!
Today’s plan was to do some baking since we’ve eaten up all the goodies from our cookie party. We first made a pie to take to Christmas dinner at Papa’s house. That was a blast! Serenity even wore her chef’s hat and apron. She measured the flour and sugar, used the pastry cutter, and rolled the dough with only a little help from me =) We made a cranberry apple pie, which was delicious, especially with ice cream! Serenity thought the cranberry was too tart, so she was right when she told me she thought it should just be an apple pie.
The next thing planned was some cookie making. I tried this great apple cookie recipe with caramel frosting… and failed. First the cookies didn’t cook all the way on my silpat, so I tried it straight on the cookie sheet and they stuck to it! So there is still a mixing bowl with half the dough in my fridge, and I haven’t managed the frosting yet. We’ll see if I try again tomorrow or if I declare holiday baking on hold till we do something with the side of my family that actually helps me eat this stuff. I was also supposed to make a dvd with our home movies of the year on it, and after ruining 5 dvds with burn errors I gave up on that too! Thwarted!
After Donovan’s second nap we headed over to Papa’s for Christmas dinner and presents. He made a delicious dinner, including my favorite fried potatoes. Donovan got to try the swing in the living room for the first time. He liked it and made such an excited little shriek! After dinner we did presents. Serenity got a great game, Don’t Break the Ice, which we all played and loved! The goal is to knock down ice cubes without making the polar bear fall through the ice. I’m glad Serenity’s still at the age where she doesn’t care about winning or losing. She just thought it was funny. =) Donovan was pretty excited by the unwrapping and box process, of course, but he also loved chewing on his new wooden name puzzle! Eric and I got a gorgeous collage frame. I can’t wait to pick a place to hang it!
