12/22Today we finally got to watch Serenity at gymnastics! It was so much fun to see all the tricks she’s learned! She does it around the house a lot of course but it’s different seeing it in class, much easier to see what she’s actually supposed to be doing. She did her “frazzle” jump, which is actually a straddle jump I’m told, where she jumps with her legs wide out. She did a great job with all the race type moves, like pogo jumping and crab walking and the wompus walk. They did a move they call “Elf on a Shelf” which was her doing a headstand in a big hexagon shaped mat. They also swung on the rings and tried to land in the chimney like Santa. She doesn’t like to climb the rope, but hey, I’m fine with that. =) She did a great job paying attention to what the teacher asked her. I wonder if she was on her best behavior because we were watching. She occasionally had a hard time waiting for her turn at the Elf on a Shelf mat, but she was always gentle in nudging people out at least. Another new thing I didn’t know she could do was the trick where she put her hands on a beam and then walks her feet up a wall. She stayed like that a long time! And then they did a flip over the bar, with teacher help. Amazing!
Our advent activity today was to read the Nativity story and talk about how Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. She got some stickers of the nativity (Which Donovan later got ahold of and ate! Oh well, at least he got to participate.)
Oh, and in another stellar parenting move today, scissor practice turned into hair cutting practice. She’d had about half an hour yesterday that she spent just focusing, and it was the first time I let her hold both scissors and paper all by herself. She did great! So when she wanted to do it again today, I was all for it. After 15 minutes of no problems, I went to visit Donovan on the floor, and then I hear, “I’m cutting my hair” “NOOOOOO!” But too late. She just got one lock of hair though, and from her piggy tail fortunately instead of her bangs. So not that bad. But still. Way to go Mama. =)
Now she is playing legos while Donovan watches her and giggles. She got a great set of Lego people from Grandma for Christmas, and she lined them all up and told them to sit properly for lunch, and then for showtime! Guess she’s playing school. =) And now rest time. Sweet.
