Girl Scout Bronze Award and Journey
Serenity earned her Girl Scout Bronze Award! It was a definite challenge due to the coronavirus and social distancing, but I’m proud of how her troop figured out how to take their project online. They had planned to host a day for the Daisy troop to earn the Between Earth and Sky journey, and each scout was in charge of a booth. They had already chosen activities for their booths and purchased supplies, so instead of presenting it all as booth in the backyard, they recorded videos and posted them to Facebook. The girls did a couple of extra videos just reading stories for the Daisies to watch that were related to the theme. Serenity read Bonjour Butterfly, a Fancy Nancy book about butterflies, and then she made a video demonstrating how butterflies pick up pollen (colored sugar and a pipe cleaner butterfly) and move it from flower to flower as they drink nectar. She had planned part of the Take Action portion of the journey, and gave them all seeds to plant to help pollinators and garden signs to decorate their own gardens. She loved it! She also got to help me put together all the craft supplies and we drove to every single Daisy Scouts house to drop stuff off on the porch. We also took sidewalk chalk to leave them messages to show we love them and miss them! When we delivered the supplies to Elle’s house, Serenity came up with social distance chalking. She would draw half a heart and then back up six feet and Elle could finish drawing the heart. It was adorable.It was a great journey.

She demonstrated how pollination works using a pipe cleaner butterfly, pollen made out of sugar and food coloring, and a flower =)
Thanks to Serenity’s troop, Maia earned her Between Earth and Sky journey! She learned lots of interesting things about the environment, did experiments with flowers, listened to stories, learned more about pollination, and took action to help pollinators by planting flowers and making bird feeders! It was a lot of fun, even though we did it virtually instead of at a big event in my backyard. She posted pics of all her activities to share with her Girl Scout sisters. It was a fun way to connect even while social distancing!

Maia made a “Skills Shirt” to earn her Firefly award in the Between Earth and Sky journey. She brainstormed her skills and we wrote them on this shirt! She’s strong, kind, funny, good at climbing, cooking, and snuggling. She’s great at reading, helping, building, decorating, and she has a great imagination!
Maia planted zinnias, bees love them!
Delivery day was a lot of fun! Maia, Serenity and I drove to all our Daisy scout friend’s houses! We dropped off supplies and left chalk messages for them! We wrote some for our GS Junior friends too when we dropped off things they needed to finish their Bronze Award too!
