Maia in September
Late August/September
Maia still says “eyeroll” and “wink” and other things that are actually facial expressions. It’s too funny =) She’s got me doing it too.
Celebrating a successful Ten Days in Asia trip! She’s gotten really good at this game!
Maia in September:
So Maia has had two photo sessions this month. School pictures, and a family photo session. The night before, what does she do? She colors with markers all over herself! Lol =) The first time, she colored on her eyelids like makeup. The second time, the marker went up her nose, probably so she could get a good sniff of her Silly Scents. She is so funny!
Maia loves school, but she doesn’t love mornings. She had a few tough weeks where she took tiny baby steps going to class, and kept saying “I don’t want to leave you!” And getting her out of the top bunk in DZ’s room was a challenge as she would lie there like a limp noodle. She seems to be getting over the hump as she danced into class. She has a little math homework every night, which she flies through but occasionally complains that coloring is exhausting. It is definitely a new thing for her to be consistent with holding a pencil or crayon, so she is building up those hand muscles. She is supposed to keep a reading log, which is hard because she often keeps reading even after I fall asleep! So it’s hard to know exactly how much she reads, but I know it’s more than plenty. ;)
Reading at the library while Serenity is in a creative writing workshop =)
Maia has started Girl Scouts! She LOVES it! She’s waited so long for her turn out scouts, she is so enthusiastic. She’s slept with the Daisy manual this whole month, and I’ve read her every single story in the Daisy Flower Garden, and she has read them by herself, and aloud to me and Papa. She’s even already memorized the promise! I had them make beaded bracelets with all the colors of the promise to help them learn it, but I really didn’t think anyone would learn it already! She’s earned her Sunny petal by being a friendly and helpful Daisy. They took home three little daisies and did helpful things and left the daisy behind to show that a Daisy had been there. It was really cute to hear all the girls say the helpful things they did! Maia wrote Papa a note, plugged in all the electronics and helped bring her siblings stuff in from the car. The second week they started their Trail Adventure badge by playing jogging games, pretending to run as different animals, making trail mix, and making a hiking necklace with compass, whistle and flashlight. She also got her Lupe petal, honest and fair. The listened to me read several stories about being fair and honest, including The Day the Crayons Quit and The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot, and then they played board games with their 5th grade Girl Scout buddies.
Her Girl Scout promise bracelet!
Reading Girl Scout stories to Papa
Lupe Honest and Fair Petal =)
80s dance at school! Or in Maia’s case, 80s run around the gym very fast playing tag day =)
She’s so proud that she can finally reach the top of the closet! Of course, she’s banned from it for a week for dropping stuff on Donovan, but she’s anxious to get that privilege back ;)
