Creative Producers 2019
Creative Producers
I just love Creative Producers! Where else do I get to learn that sushi was originally a way to keep fish from spoiling for up to a year, hear about how Sandra Day O’Connor was approved unanimously for the Supreme Court, and watch my Pre-K student talk with a sixth grader about Copernicus and the difference between heliocentric and geocentric? Add getting to dress Eric up as a Roman soldier and being taught by Maia that I’ve been pronouncing “reprise” wrong my whole life. 😂. It was a great night!
We had a blast at Creative Producers! The committee was asking for volunteers to dress as characters from the movie Night at the Museum. Eric volunteered to be the Roman Soldier, so I made him a costume using only things from my stash! A cardboard breastplate, a red cape made from leftover cotton from Serenity’s rainbow birthday, plus an old red t-shirt that I’d cut out of for some random project but saved the rest in my scrap bin. I made a cardboard hat and fortunately I had silver duct tape and red duct tape to make it look pretty cool. Fun and fast! In the movie the soldier fights with a cowboy, so Annie’s dad Jeff was the cowboy. They went around Creative Producers together so the kids could make them shake hands and earn a stamp. We visited every room, and learned fascinating things everywhere we went!
Donovan loved his project! He did the Country in a Can project and learned about Mongolia. He told me he wants to learn about every country now! He made a bow and arrow with twigs and pipe cleaners, made a golden eagle hawk out of modeling clay, and built a wooden yurt 3-D puzzle. He also had a dinosaur egg, as the first dinosaur egg found was found in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. Oh, he also made a perler bead Bactrian camel! I was proud of how many things he made himself! He’s already a Creative Producer =)
Serenity researched Medieval Religion. Notre Dame Cathedral caught fire while she was working on her project, so we talked about that some and ended up discussing how beautiful the stained glass is. She decided to make faux stained glass in a rose window design for her product. It turned out so pretty! Her display board was pretty too. She made her four subject papers into a sort of cross shape that she filled with gems. And the title looks like stained glass. That was the first thing she decided to do, paint the whole board after writing the title with stickers, and then removing the stickers. Pretty awesome! She wrote the most information about monks and nuns, and cathedrals and stained glass. She learned a lot!
Maia’s class made animals from every continent. So many fun and beautiful projects! Maia was very proud to show them off!
