Serenity Fall 2018

Serenity got to see Wicked recently. She adores the music and loved the play, but it never occurred to me she’s never seen the Wizard of Oz. She was telling me all about it and said “Then this guy Boq got turned into a robot” 😂😂😂. Mrs Ritchie is reading the wizard of oz to DZs class and when he tells her about it she’s all “quit being mean to Elphie!!!!”😂😍 She’s been listening to the soundtrack every night as she falls asleep and asking for it every day in the car.

Fourth grade has been a lot of fun for Serenity! She’s done two big projects this year. They read Newberry books, write summaries and make projects. For her first project she chose a diorama. She read the Girl Who Drank the Moon. As was typical for her, she read her book the first day of the project and actually finished the project the day before it was due. Serenity said she was going to pick only moon related Newberry books so her second book was also about moons. It was a retelling of Chinese fairy tales. She read that and actually wrote her summary. For the project she did a really pretty painting of the dragon from the book. She drew the dragon in oil pastel and did watercolor for the background.
We’ve gotten to have a couple of lunches in the union. I volunteer to walk over with them. It’s so much fun being with Serenity’s class. They’ve been together so long. They are just such neat kids. Mrs. Lincoln made sure Nitya got to sit by Serenity at the first lunch. She’s new in the class and they get along well!
She still misses Liz, and she still calls Liz her best friend. They skype often and send each other funny pictures. At Girl Scouts she usually hangs out with Kenzi.

Serenity was a bit nervous about starting band in the fifth grade, so she asked to take clarinet lessons this year. I think that was a really great idea! She knew herself well enough to know she was worried about something, and started practicing earlier to make it better. We bought a clarinet and found a teacher, which isn’t that easy for clarinet. It took a long time to get the initial sounds working right, and getting the face muscles strong enough to be able to do it is a challenge! She’s got the idea now though, and played a beautiful duet with her teacher.
Eric is always happy to take the kids out for rainy day fun
Serenity’s class drew quilt squares with things they love. My favorite is the drawing of Serenity with her siblings =). She loves the yoga swing, ice cream, cats, animal jam, Golden Queen from Skylanders…
Our first visit to the Gathering Place we had so much fun on this climber we didn’t go any farther =)
Ice Cream for Mimi’s birthday, our family tradition =)
Serenity really loves buddy days! They got to do so many fun things with their EP buddies this year. And Serenity, Saniyah and Elle gave each other little gifts and messages all year. So sweet!!!
Crafting fun with Ann
Serenity loves going to Grandma’s and playing with the dachshunds
Serenity made these teeny tiny people out of brown paper for her diorama of a Native American dwelling. And tiny bushes to scale with her tipi.

Serenity went with Abby to Target on a Harry Potter day and came home with this cute picture! Love!
Serenity loves sleeping in this nightgown with the sleep mask she made herself. She wore it so often she fixed DZ up in a coordinating outfit =)
