Maia Fall 2018

Maia has added a lot of cute words to her vocabulary lately. She likes to tell me “a’ course” a lot. The other day, Eric asked her why she keeps calling me mother (mudder) when I like to be called Mama. She said, sometimes my voice gets cracked. She also says “literally.” So far she’s used it correctly =) This morning, in the car, she said "Mom, can you flip your visor down? I need to read this Air Bag Warning" ;)
Maia put her wonder woman costume on top of her pajamas every night for months =) She also likes to wear her mask, and the headband that came with the costume. And her book matches too =)

Maia loves to say P.S. She read it in the Day the Crayons came home and she uses it all the time. Like P.S., I’m hungry, or P.S., I love my Mama!”
Literally
“That’s awkward” It’s so cute to hear Maia say this phrase. One day her teachers said maybe they needed to go back to EC since they’d forgotten how to walk quietly in line. Maia told me later “I can’t go back to E.C. That would be AWKWARD.” So cute.
Maia adores school! The first few weeks there were days when she was hopping in excitement as she went in! Every day they get to choose a different greeting when they go in the classroom. She’s given hugs, high fives, and handshakes. She also loves a butterfly greeting where you link thumbs and wiggle your fingers. When she gets in the car she LOVES to tell me about her day. I get more information from her in a single day than I got in whole months from the other two. I love it so much! It’s adorable. Mrs. Roe is teaching them lots of character building things, like taking different kinds of deep breaths when they feel upset. One thing she’s learned is making helpful choices instead of hurtful choices. One day, at dinner, Serenity was complaining about the food I’d fixed and wasn’t eating. Maia said, “Donovan and I are eating our food. We’re making helpful choices. Serenity is making a hurtful choice.” Serenity didn’t like it much but I was proud that Maia was thinking about what she was learning at school! The best part is a couple months later, someone hurt Serenity’s feelings in P.E. and she said, “My sister Maia would say that is a hurtful choice.” Love that!

Maia loves her buddy Kayla! And it’s fun being paired with Bre =)
I got to come to Maia’s class to help with the class art project! We made giant butterfly wings using liquid watercolors and lots of fun methods. They used droppers, straws, and brushes to swirl the color. It was vivid and beautiful!
We’re having lots of fun with Wild Kratts! Ever since we went to the show in the summer we’ve had one animal power after another. Maia used her birthday money from Papa to buy a Creature Power suit and a bunch of disks. She got the blue one, Martin’s suit. She tells us all about the different powers and runs around the house in animal form. It’s right up her alley. One day Serenity and Maia were watching a Wild Kratt’s episode about sharks. There was a baby shark. Little shark on wild kratts:

Maia: "It's just lovely “=)
Maia loves the Gathering Place! We’ve been three times now. The last time we went with the Richards family. The weather was cool and pleasant, which was a nice surprise as it was supposed to be 49! We loved it. Maia kept asking kids if they wanted to be her best friend. She got four yeses to that. =)
Klingon: Maia often calls herself a Klingon. She loves to hold on to our elbows/arms and hang on them. She’s really strong! Gymnastics has been great for her. Sometimes when she’s waking up in the morning she and Eric have a Fiesta de Colo. Elbow party ;)
Bedtime Gymnastics: She shows off her gymnastics moves to Eric at bedtime. She likes to show off gymnastics moves on the jungle gym too. She can hang on with no hands! She even did it once with just one leg! It’s pretty awesome!
When Ann and John came to visit they played lots of cards with the kids. John was amazed at how well Maia learned to play Pairs and Tails. She was using real strategy!
Superkid: Maia got to be Superkid in September! She was sad when she didn’t get picked the very first week, but then she got picked for the second turn and she told me that wasn’t too long to wait. Lol!

John and Ann got Maia a Harley Quinn Lego set for her birthday! She loves building!!
Maia is showing a lot of interest in working in the kitchen! She volunteers to help more than anyone!
I repainted the bookshelf that I made with Dad for Serenity’s nursery. It’s now hanging in the hallway between Maia and Donovan’s rooms. I’ve been filling it with books for different seasons or themes. Maia usually reads anything that I put up there which keeps me busy finding new themes! This is a snow theme in honor of our snowy day =)

Fiesta De Colo
Maia loves the dogs at Grandma’s now! She had Grandma laughing hysterically one day. Mom said she could go out with the dogs and Maia dove through the doggie door after them =) lol!
