Donovan Fall 2018
9/24
Donovan’s class got to visit the Pumpkin Patch! It’s quite a drive but I got to ride the bus this year. The kids adore this field trip. They get to pick a pumpkin, and this year there were still apples on the trees so they got to pick some of those too! Donovan still loves trying different kinds of apples since they did that apple tasting experiment in EP. The pumpkin town play area is really fun too. Jumping into huge piles of hay, a hay maze, pumpkin bowling, swings that look like saddle horses, lasso throwing. It’s no wonder the kids fall asleep on the ride home!

Jogathon! Serenity and Donovan enjoyed running together this year 🙂. Maia practiced by running circles around the house last night 🙂

Yesterday in the car DZ asked me how much change I had in my pocket. I told him I was wearing yoga pants and didn’t have pockets. So then he asked how much change I had in my wallet. I don’t keep change in my wallet, I put it in a cup at home. Finally, he was like Mom! I just want to do my homework! I have to write how much change you have!! Sooo we found five quarters and 4 pennies in the glove box 😂

Donovan Baseball
Donovan got to play Fall Ball this year! Davis Hale invited the Uschool kids in Donovan’s class to join his team. Hudson, his son, is in the grade above Donovan so he was with Donovan in EC. They had a great time together! They are really learning a lot of skills! Donovan even helped with a double play! Hudson caught a ball, threw it to him at first, and Donovan threw it to second. They were making real plays! It was fun to watch. And they won the championship! Donovan got his first trophy! He loves it =)
Donovan is doing great in first grade! He is very diligent about doing his homework. He likes to do it in the car on the drive home.
He got to be the first Scholar of the Week! It’s a new project they are doing in 1st grade. They let them research anything they are interested in and present it to the class. Donovan wanted to learn about how an Ipad works. We asked around to see if anyone had a broken Ipad so that he could take it apart. Luckily the Gates family had one! He watched a lot of YouTube videos with Eric to figure out how to do it. The hardest part was definitely getting the clips off. I broke a clip popping it off so we quickly got some protective eyewear. He was fascinated by all the parts inside and carefully labeled them so he could tell the class about it. He wanted to type the whole summary himself, so we spent a lot of time spelling words as he typed. He watched videos about how batteries work, and Eric explained it as well. He got out the Snap Circuits sets and made lots of practice circuits too! It was a BLAST! He did a really great job and kept the class interested for more than half an hour! Totally awesome.
Donovan is reading a TON! He begs to snuggle up and read with me every night. He’s read every rainbow magic fairy book that Serenity has on the shelf. He picks those for his classroom books too, he really loves them. It’s adorable.
Pairs and Tails
Donovan still loves games! While Ann and John were here they played lots of Pairs and Tails.
