3/10 We've done a great job continuing Kindness Day... Not doing so well documenting it. =) But I want to at least make a few notes about what we've been up to! Week 5: Make a Fleece Blanket. Serenity and I went to Jo-ann's together, and she chose fleece fabric to make one of those tied fleece blankets. She tied at least a third of the knots, and considering there are about four hundred knots in one of those blankets, I think she did a great job! We plan to send it to project linus, but since I haven't heard back from the contact person in this area we may donate it somewhere else.
Week 6: Mail a Hug. I think writing letters is such a great thing to do, but I so rarely actually do it. This was a fun craft project where we drew around Serenity on butcher paper, and then she colored herself in. She wrote hugs on it really big and we mailed it to Vanaema and FarFar.
Week 7: Librarian Gift. I asked Serenity who she thought we should do something nice for. She decided to take something to the Librarians at the library we usually visit together. I thought this was a great idea, especially since I request books from there nearly every week. (it's much easier than trying to find great books with two kids in tow, although I let them choose books too) Anyway, she picked out an apple danish for them and made the a bookmark all by herself on the computer, because of course librarians need bookmarks. After she gave it to the librarian (herself! I was so proud at the way she spoke up to tell them what she was doing!) I heard the librarian at the desk tell the others, "that nice family brought us a treat!" Made me smile =) And it made them smile too! Perfect kindness day!
Week 8: Donuts for the Teachers. I let Serenity decide what we should take to her school, and as donuts are her favorite treat she thought they would like it too =) We took one box back for her teachers and left a couple more dozen in the office for the others.
Week 9: Compliment Day. We actually did this a couple of days early, partially because we had a really busy Friday planned with Family Game Night, and partly because Serenity sees more different people on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The idea was for her to give compliments to others. Hopefully encouraging her to speak where people can hear her, and to think about what she likes about other people. When she got out of the car the first day I heard her tell Ms. Parent all about it. It was very funny, and I'm not sure if she quite understood =) But she told Eric that "You do a very good job taking care of Baby Donovan." So she got in a little practice at least.
Week 10: Gift Day: I gave Serenity five dollars (and fifty cents for tax) to spend at the dollar store. She told me right away that she wanted to get Dora stickers for Samantha, which was so thoughtful! She also chose a balloon for Donovan, and Diego stickers for him. She got princess stickers for Braley, and two things for Samantha, which we will deliver next week. I was pleasantly surprised that she mostly chose things for others, and didn't ask for a lot of things for herself. I did buy her a balloon when she wasn't looking, mostly because I didn't want to have problems with balloon sharing all day. It was great fun!
