Hi.

Welcome!

Flower Divas

July 2004

My interview outfit

Flower Divas is a wedding and event florist, and I started working there in May of 2004. I absolutely love my job. I'm sure you've all heard about it since I talk about the job every chance I get. It's like getting to do a new project every week, which suits me perfectly. I am learning so much from Shawna and Michelle, and I love every minute of it. I get to do all kinds of things, from making bouquets, centerpieces, corsages and garlands to more unique things like making a monogram on foam board, making huge styrofoam balls of flowers, putting up fabric tents, and of course using the wonderful glue guns. Below is a sample of some of my favorite things from June and July, and below that are the first pictures I uploaded from Flower Divas. And if you just can't get enough of my pretty flower pictures, under each month is a Flower Divas section in the photo page. June and July 2004

These photos are from the wedding that is going to be televised in October. It was such fun to work with because we did so many really unique things I made the bridesmaids bouquets, and I really love them. They have gloriosa lilies, which are just such cool flowers, and some beautiful dahlias. I like the detail of the beadwork on the wrapping. The big flower balls were fun and different. I made the monogram of the H on that medallion as well. That was really fun to do. =) And the bride loved it.

These are three of my favorite bouquets. The purple one smells really wonderful, between the prince garden roses and the hyacinth. I was happy the whole time I made it because it was so pretty and smelled so good.

For this wedding I got to make the urn arrangements. These are the first that I did for Flower Divas. It was really fun to get to make them so big, plus I love the yellow color. We've only done a few yellow things. I liked these chair clusters a lot too =)

May2004

I've been promising to get photos put up from my new job, and here they are. For those of you who don't know, the name of the wedding and event florist I work for is Flowerdivas. They do really beautiful floral arrangements. I actually found them through their website, www.flowerdivas.com. I e-mailed Shawna to see if she needed any extra help, and she did!

My first week I got to go with Shawna to do some deliveries and see Silver Creek Country Club, one of their corporate accounts and a place that they do a lot of weddings. That week I also got to make some large arrangements that they make weekly for several businesses. I got to make aisle decorations for that week's wedding as well, copying a design that Shawna made first. They turned out very pretty. The wedding was in bright oranges and pinks and greens. I love the bouquets they made, and I got to wrap the stems with ribbon. That week I also got to help make a tent for a cake table. We took an enormous bolt of cotton duck fabric and attached it to poles and hung them from a brown structure at Mountain Winery. Here are some pictures from the first wedding…

I got to make the foam base for this. If you've ever tried to attach dripping wet floral oasis to tagboard, you know it's challenging and fun! Shawna and Michelle added the flowers and hung it at the Mountain Winery gate and after the guests had arrived, moved it to the reception.

Here's the tent I helped Shawna make. I got to put a few of those cake flowers on as well. It takes a ton to fill in those cakes, but it looks lovely.

My second week we had another wedding, which I forgot to take pictures of. Which is too bad, because it was very pretty. I got to make some of the centerpieces, which were clusters of red tulips, roses, blue delphinium and hydrangeas in silver julip buckets. I also got to make three of the bridesmaids bouquets! She made one, and I copied it three times. They were reds and blues, which looked very nice with the café au lait colored dresses. I also got to make the brides bouquet. She had a base of blue hydrangea, which was very interesting to work with because you have to mix the other flowers in the hydrangea, which is basically shaped like a big ball. It worked well though. It was so amazing to set up at that wedding and see the bride and bridesmaids look so beautiful and happy, with flowers I did! I'm so sorry I forgot to take pictures, but as you can tell, I was very busy!

This week there were two weddings that I helped with. Michelle, had one wedding, and I made some centerpieces with her. They were very wild and pretty in hot pinks and purples. Then I got to work on Shawna's wedding. I got to make the bride's bouquet again, and the bridesmaid's, without a sample. It was very wonderful! The bridesmaids had lisianthus, bluebird roses, mini callas, and blue hydrangea. The dresses were pink, with a lavender overlay. She said they'd look more pink in natural light, but we left before the wedding this week, as there wasn't any cleanup or transfers.

I also got to make the bride's bouquet! I got to use stephanotis, which was very exciting. Stephanotis is a vine, so it doesn't have a stem, so I got to add one with a little crystal, which I think looks really elegant. The roses in this one are garden roses called Fair Bianca, which smell amazing! There were also some normal white roses and a green hydrangea base.
