Kayaking!
Kayaking! This was Donovan’s choice of activity and we had a blast! We paddled for seven miles! Donovan took the solo kayak and made it the whole way alone. He liked going in the narrower lanes when he could. Maia worked so hard! You could really see her working those strong swimming muscles… and splashing. A lot. Eric said he hardly had to paddle but he was drenched 😂. Sera and I were the chill boat. No boat wrestling but we pointed out all the flowers and the verdant greenery 😂🥰🤩. We saw a deer, turtle, and a bald eagle! Possibly also a white tailed hawk and a heron if our wingspan knowledge is applicable. 😜. We definitely want to do this again!
DZ loved finding challenging areas to paddle through =) We got stuck on one sandbank and Eric and Maia had to get out of the boat for a sec to push out!
After kayaking we picked Papa up from the hotel and headed to Mammoth Cave National Park! Maia got another Junior Ranger badge and then we took the extended historic tour. We made it through some really windy and narrow passages. It was such a nice cool walk and really interesting to imagine people exploring the caves by lantern light, marking their names using candle soot.
Maia got a cute deer at the gift shop, and Sera got a bear. We got a bear Christmas ornament for Papa too.
