Road Trip to Mississippi and Louisiana: Day 1
All three kids are very enthusiastic about visiting new states, so we decided to skip Thanksgiving in favor of another mini road trip with Papa! So we are checking Louisiana and Mississippi off our list! We drove to a hotel near Vicksburg Mississippi the first night. Eric had heard about the Jesse Brent Museum of the Lower Mississippi and wanted to visit! I thought it would be a brief stop since it was free, but it was fascinating learning all about how the Corps of Engineers manages the Mississippi River! Then we drove to Jackson and Le Fleur’s Bluff state park for some frisbee golf. There was a lot of “Take that Tree!” As we tried to maneuver discs through the woods, and a lot of hilarity and fun in the forest together! Love traveling with them! We then headed south to New Orleans, and braved Saturday night crowds to try beignets. Poor Papa hurt his knee coming into the hotel, so he wisely stayed home to ice it, and I’m pretty sure he would have the same opinion as Sera and DZ about the crowds ;) We learned that two out of three kids are definitely not city people, but beignets are worth it.
The first hotel breakfast had bacon and blueberry scones! Happy happy DZ 🎶 We drove as far as we could after school Friday so we could have a nice full day in Mississippi!
Museum of the Lower Mississippi! They had a giant elevation map!
They had a game about the Mississippi River that is sort of like the Oregon Trail… and like the Oregon Trail I died five times. (Darn dysentery anyway). Maia won twice 😂
Papa taught Maia to use the rotary phone
We took a picture like this with friends at our wedding festivities 🥰
Calvin and Hobbes 🤩
Hug a tree in thanks for a great ricochet 🥰
Emerging from a hole in the tree. We took a whole series 😍
Maia found puppies to pet!
Sera learned the woods can bite 😂
Our hotel in New Orleans was by the JOY theater! So fun!
I still LOVE beignets! Sera and DZ didn’t think it was worth the chaos of the city, but did agree they were tasty.
Maia still thinks she wants to play cello next year! She’s very determined so I would not be surprised 🥰. She loved the noise and beautiful music as we zipped towards Cafe Beignet for dinner and treats.
