DZ's 10th Birthday Trip
Donovan’s 10th birthday trip finally happened!!! Just in time before he turned 11, yay vaccines! First we stopped in Joplin to shop at an excellent game shop and have Panera INSIDE the restaurant (pretty easy to spoil this kid ). Then we went through a town named Peculiar and had to stop! We hit a bucket of balls and it was the perfect break in the drive! Donovan’s goal was to hit that metal saucer thing and he managed it with ten balls left! So fun!! I can’t believe we’ve never taken him to do that before.
They had rubber dice that would bounce when you tried to roll them. We thought they were hilarious.
DZ got a super cool D20 necklace, a green D20 plush bag, a game called Charterstone, and a cool dice holder. Sooo fun!
A tiger mural seemed too perfect for a DZ birthday picture!
Then we arrived at the great wolf lodge! My wolf child howled all around the room, then went down water slides for two hours! Then pizza and then arcade!!! Busy and fun day.
It was so special to get time to just focus on DZ, let him plan and choose what we do, and talk about any and everything that came up! We did silly mad libs, talked about the black market and supply and demand, and laughed SO much! I love my DZ!!!
Saturday Donovan decided to take advantage of all the Great Wolf Lodge fun! He got a Wolf Pass and we tried the arcade, laser tag, MagiQuest and Compass Quest, and of course many visits to the water park!!!
We also had plenty of board game time, and he taught us one of his favorite iPad obsessions, Bloons TD6! . He’s so much fun to hang out with!
We wore the wolf ears the whole weekend, even when we left the great wolf lodge ;)
He earned 912 tickets in the arcade with a lot of ski ball and this really fun game where you try and bounce ping pong balls on lighted squares.
He stomped us at air hockey :)
I am still reasonably good at ski ball! . On his last game DZ got BOTH 10,000 holes! I don’t even try for them, he’s more ambitious than I am.
Eric delighted in pointing out he’ll be driving in five years as he knocked over chairs, trees, and other cars in this game
Pretty cool prize for most of his tickets! He also got a puffy squish ball. And green of course, just like his car of choice.
Bouncing for the win! Eric said it was probably more arcade time than he had the rest of his life!
DZ loves games so we brought several with us to play in the room! The first night I turned into a pumpkin and the guys played several rounds of Sagrada and The Game. The second night I was determined to stay up so I invested in a late coffee and a brief nap during their third trip to the water slides. It worked, we stayed up until midnight! Donovan said I was the best mama for not pumpkining. ;)
Laser tag! I lost. A lot . So fun though, we had it to ourselves.
Donovan got to pick all the food this weekend! So we mostly ate breakfast food for every meal, especially Panera! BUT, he also had Mexican food. He told Eric he wanted to try new dishes and he loved shrimp fajitas and tamales! YAY!
We love Magiquest! It’s my favorite part of the Great Wolf Lodge, and I loved running around the hotel with DZ as he played.
Master Magi DZ!!!
The red dragon nearly defeated us. But we powered up the wand and won just in time.
The triple twisty slide was the favorite!
Snuggling on our balcony while Donovan teaches us Bloons TD6. This is one of the kids favorite games, and Eric likes tower defense games so I suggested he teach it to us. He loved doing that! And we all love the game now, it’s so much fun!!!
