Summer Fun May 2020
Well the first couple days of our summer plans went well! The kids all practiced typing and handwriting and started some fun book projects. Maia read a book about mermaids and we baked magic seashell cookies. The kids all watched The Who Was show on Netflix and DZ is making a ballot box inspired by Susan B Anthony. He plans for us to vote on what we eat for dinner . Serenity has been reading graphic novels and did a photo shoot of characters from it today. Lots of creek walks and random summer fun! We are especially taking advantage of the library drive through service! One day I had 29 books on hold. Such a GOOD day Maia even asked to ride along with me to the library, getting to leave the house is an exciting event these days! Serenity loved one of the books so much I had to hunt her down to make sure she was still in the house She did a book talk for it and posted it to Facebook. She convinced Henry at least to read the Kingdom of Ash and Briar. And of course, I read it too! She later did a book talk for A Phoenix First Must Burn. So good!
Voting day was a success Donovan gave us all ballots he colored and had us vote for what to eat. After he collected the ballots it occurred to him that we could have all voted for different restaurants so he should have given us options. Fortunately, he got two votes for Ted’s so we got dinner. And the next ballot he makes will be more detailed! Great fun and a good follow up to the amazing civics lessons he got from Mrs. Pappas.
Maia loves The Who was Netflix series so much we ordered one of the books and read it together. Then she got out a canvas and painted something. She loved it because Frida’s paintings weren’t at all realistic so she could get away with a pink tree.
Maia loves hide and seek scootering. I can’t keep up with Maia anymore so she finds hiding spots in the green belt as we go
Toward the end of May the kids cleaned the entryway which of course means it was the perfect location for an epic coloring session. . Maia still adores her silly scents. Eric walked into the room when he had a break and asked how everyone is. Maia said I’m HAPPY!!” And then took a giant sniff of her marker. . We go through a lot of silly scents They also had an extremely complicated Rainbow Magic Fairy lending library that involved all the barstools, cardboard boxes and laundry baskets they could gather . Maia did another food project for Book Club and DZ made a Rube Goldberg machine after watching a video. I’d just checked out Just Like Rube Goldberg from the library so it was good timing!

I am enrolled in school!!!!!!! I am SO excited!! I’m working towards getting a Masters as a Reading Specialist, and getting my alternative certification to teach. I got assigned to research Conscious Discipline for my classroom management class. I feel like the amazing Becca Roe taught us all about it in EP So I'm going to quiz Maia to get tips for my paper One day, I’d been watching videos all day on classroom management techniques, rules and procedures ideas. Sending the kids to bed that night I told Donovan he had two choices, he could go set up his bed now wherever he wanted or I would set it up for him but I would set it up in his room. He responded “I know what you are doing, I heard that on the video!” Busted. But it worked!
