Donovan's Dragon Birthday
Donovan Birthday Journaling
Donovan got a dragon birthday! He is reading the Wings of Fire series and LOVES it. Also, he dressed up as a dragon who loves tacos several times this year, and of course his favorite restaurant is Ted’s. So it made sense for a birthday theme. He wanted a video game sleepover again, so we got him a new X-box game, Spyro’s Adventures. Spyro is one of the dragons in Skylanders, and he had adventures before they came up with Skylanders. It is a one-person game, so while they took turns trying it out, we had lego dragons to build, and Perler bead patterns to make Wings of Fire characters. Joseph was the only one who made a dragon, but everyone had some Perler bead fun.
For food, we got our favorite donuts from OK Country donut shop. They didn’t have dragons, but DZ was happy for dinosaurs, they were close enough and tasty too! We got a bunch of tacos from Ted’s, plus beans and tortillas. I think Donovan ate five burritos! And it was cute to see them all eating the tacos together =)
I made everyone dragon masks, and they all wore them =) It was so much fun! I took some pictures with the fire breathing cardboard I made, which worked great!
Plus, they all wore them for the surprise activity after dark. I put Nessie, our Halloween dragon up in the backyard. That was a blast in itself as the kids swung on the tire swing right at the dragon. But after it got dark I hid a hundred eggs in the back yard with glow sticks inside. They LOVED it! I gave them bags with Wings of Fire dragons on them and they ran around in the dark collecting eggs with Nessie. I filled them with M&Ms and Starburst and Donovan commented that they had his favorite candy. Yay!
They stayed up REALLY late. So late when Eric went up to try and get a picture of them sleeping before he went to bed, they had to pretend to sleep because they were still playing! They played Uno Flip and some other games in the game room, and slept on Donovan’s new dragon bedding under the jungle gym. Such a fun night!
When I was cleaning and decorating, Donovan said he didn’t need decorations and such, which was a little sad. But then the morning when he woke up on his birthday, he started bouncing and squealing when he saw all his birthday stuff. He got a new t-shirt that he put on immediately, and he pointed and did the little silly squeak he uses when he wants to pretend to be really little when he saw Nessie in the yard. It was perfect. I love him so much!
