Serenity is Ten!
It’s hard to believe my baby is ten years old! I am so lucky to be her mama.
Loves:
Serenity often says that Donovan is her best friend. They do everything together. She wants so badly to take care of Maia like she’s her mama, which Maia only occasionally tolerates. All three of them spend long hours playing together which always melts my heart. Sometimes they gather in the corner of my bedroom, hiding behind my chair, playing ipad games. Sometimes they disappear upstairs and play legos. They’ll pretend to be animals, or Skylanders, or whatever they are into at the moment. I love it.
Serenity and Maia sometimes want their hair to match. Love!
Serenity is still a Nature Girl. For her 10th birthday, Eric and I are letting her plan a trip that the three of us will take together this fall. She wants to hike and see waterfalls. I love it! It’s absolutely her. She’s always loved wandering around in the yard, collecting leaves, flowers, and sticks. Digging in the dirt, playing in the creek in our green belt, she just loves it all.
We get to do lots of fun outdoor stuff with Girl Scouts! Canoe Rendezvous
Serenity looooves modeling clay. She discovered it in Art Club. She loved it so much she based her whole Creative Producers project on it. She created clay tiles, baked them, and arranged them in a tessellation inspired by a Roman Mosaic design from the House of the Faun in Pompeii. It is really beautiful! I even hung it on the wall.

Her favorite books from this year are Science comic books, a really fun series we found in Target. They are graphic novels with lots of fun science information in them. She also loves reading books that are full of projects you can make, random things to make. She learned to sew felt creatures this year. They are soooo cute. She made a penguin and plans to make more.
Serenity loves mythology. She read Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods and the Heroes book, which have more than 300 pages, several times each. These books are huge. She really loves them! At one point this year, her favorite word was Hermera, which is the Greek embodiment of the Day. I even put her on Serenity’s birthday donuts.
Her favorite ipad things include My Singing Monsters, Helix Jump, Dash Tag, Animal Jam, Blocky Baseball.
Serenity loves animals too, especially Otters, Owls, and Cats. She got an Otter she named Cupcake at the Monterrey Aquarium, she got Owls from her Cabin Six (Athena) Greek Myth birthday, and Cats are a longtime love =)
Her favorite activities from this year were Girl Scouts and Aerial Yoga. Aerial Yoga is awesome! And we have one of the swings at home so she uses it to practice her moves. She wants to continue taking classes this year. Her favorite thing from Girl Scouts this year was camping, the Aquarium Sleepover, and cookie prizes.

Our first Girl Scout campout! Serenity and her friend Kenzie were proud of this centerpiece they made! They collected twigs, bark and rock and made a bird in a nest! So cute!

She ADORED third grade! Mrs. Thomason and Mrs. Poleman are the best!
September 2017 She is still a reader! She discovered my Nancy Drew and read a dozen of them =)
October 2017 Cooking pancakes! Serenity can make a few things now, like mac n’ cheese and pancakes. Two of her favorites, predictably. This was for a class assignment, she cooked the entire meal!
She was a fox for Halloween! She loves foxes =) Animal jam foxes, regular foxes, her stuffed fox, all of them =)
November 2017 A great deal of butter.
December 2017 Serenity was in the School Spelling Bee! She spelled so many words! We had a lot of fun getting ready for the spelling bee. Spelling games are fun =) She wanted curly fancy hair for the spelling bee, and she thoroughly enjoyed flipping her curls around on stage. =)
Christmas 2018! Serenity was thrilled about getting unicorn slippers, pillows with the sequins that flip to change colors, a rock collection, and animal jam figures!
December 2017 Chocolate party! Her class read Willie Wonka this year so for her winter party we made chocolate. Yum!
January 2018 She looks sooo grown up!

Cookie Seller! She reached her goal of getting the stuffed animal again, and then sold more!
March 2018 Drama Festival! Serenity played Will Rogers, “The Greatest Entertainer of All Time!” Her teachers said they chose her for that part because she could act with a lot of enthusiasm!
April 2018 Serenity loves hiking at the botanical gardens!
May 2018 Birthday cinnamon rolls! The topper is a picture of Hermera, the greek goddess of the day. A word Serenity repeated randomly and to be silly a lot this spring!
Serenity asked for a blue pioneer dress for her Rose Hill Field Trip, and I was thrilled to make it! I made myself a skirt too so I could go with them =) Serenity won the class spelling bee, got to write with ink and a calligraphy pen, rode the Flying Jenny, and adored this field trip.
