Hi.

Welcome!

Maia is the most considerate of my children when it comes to naps.  If she sees me napping, she sneaks off and actually plays by herself until I wake up.  Occasionally I’ve just been pretending to sleep and I’ll hear her inform the others, “mama is SLEEPING” in the cutest little exaggerated whisper.  So sweet =)

Maia’s love of elbows is still going strong.  Now that she is becoming more outgoing, pretty much any elbow is fair game.  She’s even started holding onto her teacher’s elbows.  =)  Sometimes, when Daddy sings her bedtime songs, she changes the words to include elbow.  Row, row, row your elbow gently down the stream!  Mellily mellilly mellilly mellily, life is but an ELBOW.  =)

Revolve the pokemon.  Maia loves to play pokemon.  She’s taken over Eric’s account since he has lost interest, and she and I will sometimes go catch pokemon together.  She’s pretty good!  My favorite thing though is when she wants to evolve something, she asks if she can “revolve” the pokemon.  It’s too cute, and the pokemon really do “revolve” when you evolve them! =)

I can’t believe it’s May and I haven’t been journaling!  Thank goodness for Facebook so I have notes to work from.

Maia is getting so big!  She’s at an absolutely adorable stage and is so much fun!  She really plays with Donovan and Serenity now and loves getting involved in big games with them.  She’s more open to when Serenity wants to play Mama with her, letting Serenity pick her up and snuggle elbows and help her get dressed.  She used to be too independent for that kind of game, and sometimes she still declines, but sometimes they both enjoy it and it’s absolutely adorable!  She and Donovan love playing bad guys, and pets, and all sorts of make believe games together.  They have started enjoying sleeping in Maia’s room on the weekends.  They’ve tried letting Maia sleep with them, or upstairs in the game room, but she is a homebody who just prefers to be in her own room.  Not necessarily in her bed, sometimes she wants a pallet in the floor or in her closet, but definitely her own space.  One night, Maia was reading herself to sleep… aloud.  Donovan complained that he couldn’t sleep with her reading so I asked her if she could read in her mind.  She responded a little testily, “I can’t read it in my mind, I need to read it in my MOUTH!”  So sometimes they end up having to separate so they can actually sleep, but it works out more often than it doesn’t now.

Maia is taking swimming lessons this spring!  Her teacher is Mr. Logan and she LOVES it.  She talks about swimming all the time.  The first day we went to lessons happened to be ribbon week, so she was all about earning ribbons from that point on.  She did earn a ribbon at the first ribbon week, and another during water safety week when they got to use life jackets and canoe in the pool.  She was thrilled and took them to school for show and tell!  She’s getting a lot stronger, and much calmer about floating on her back.  She even shows off that skill in the tub which makes it easier to wash her hair!  She has just two more weeks of lessons, and I think she’s decided on dancing in the fall but she still has some time to decide.

Maia always pays close attention when Serenity is learning her lines for the Drama Festival.  This year, Serenity was Will Rogers.  One of her lines embarrassed her a little, so we practiced it a lot at home.  Anika the schoolteacher says “Mr. Will Rogers, the greatest entertainer of ALL time!”  And Serenity says “Awww shucks, no need to make such a fuss about me.”  Well, Maia and I were testing out the walkie talkies Donovan had gotten for Christmas.  I was using some walkie talkie lingo, like “Copy that, Over and Out, and Roger.”  When Maia heard that, she said “You mean MR. WILL ROGERS, the greatest entertainer of all time?”  =)  So funny!

Another funny Maia moment from this spring was when I was innocently sitting on the couch.  She came over to me randomly and punched me in the face.  Then she said cheerfully, “fist bump!”  So glad we got that lesson at home and not at school! =)

Maia asked me if her room could be blue.  Of course, the answer to that was YES!  So we painted her room Tame Teal.  She loves it, and it really looks so beautiful.  Not just because it is my favorite color too =)  It matches her covers and her bookshelf.  And once I started painting the wall I could see how dirty it was!  I was hoping it would inspire me to paint the rest of the house but no luck so far.

I love how her mind makes connections.  She’s really interesting to listen to.  One day we were driving home and she said,  “Look at the sunset! It’s so like Jupiter! It’s making my mind dizzy!!!!!”  She adores the planets and the planet game Eric plays in the car.  The game makes very little sense but they love it.  They sing random songs and try to guess what planet or object in space they are singing about.  For example, if someone sings “Who Let the Dogs Out”  they are singing about Pluto.

Maia adores Wonder Woman right now.  We will very likely be having a Wonder Woman birthday in December =)  She has a costume she got for Christmas from Ann and John, lots of books, a shield, and a lasso of truth.  And now she’s started a lego collection!  She has several of the DC superhero girls sets now.  Batgirl’s batjet and Wonder Woman’s dorm room.  She wants the school and I’ve added it to her Amazon wish list.  She is really good at the little legos now!  She can put together the smaller sets with very little help from me.  Mostly piece collecting and keeping her company is all I do.  She’s pretty strong and can click together pieces tightly.

We read a lot of 5 minute Palace Pets stories, Ninja Red Riding Hood, DC Superhero 5 minute stories, The Day the Crayons Quit, the Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors, so many books!  And she reads herself to sleep every night as well.

She loves her friends at school.  She still calls them her audience, which is too cute.  =) They practice being a good audience during show and tell =) She talks the most about things she’s learned in science, like about the wetlands, prairies, other habitats, and animals, reptiles, mammals, and insects.  She has done so well in school all year!  She usually gets her stickers and erasers, meaning she followed the rules, and she loves it!  She also sings a lot in Chinese and uses her Spanish words.  They did an adorable song for Chinese New Year, and she got all dressed up in a little dress from China and was thrilled!

Maia thoroughly enjoyed singing in her school program!  She was so enthusiastic and adorable =)  She made perfect little pouty faces when singing “But I can’t spell HIPPOPOTAMOUS.”  😍   The songs were all about letters and words so definitely a good choice for her =)  She was swaying and dancing and just full of joy.  So fun to watch! =)

Maia put her wonder woman costume on top of her pajamas every night for months =)  She also likes to wear her mask, and the headband that came with the costume.  And her book matches too =)
