December 3rd: Winterfest
We started our Sunday out our favorite way, with a visit from Papa =) He comes and makes us a delicious breakfast of oatmeal and cinnamon toast. He brings fruit, treats, ingredients and even his toaster oven. We love it!
We took the kids ice skating today =) The weather was crazy warm so the ice was covered in puddles. The kids had a blast anyway. Serenity can still skate quite nicely, and with all the practice on roller skates Donovan could stay standing and balanced really well. He went very slowly when he was away from the wall or the little walker thing he used at times, but he loved it. Maia of course was Miss Independent and Determined. I put on her skates and was planning to help her get to the ice rink, but she just stood right up and started walking off. I had to grab her and turn her the other direction since she wasn’t headed directly to the ice, but she was certain she had it under control. She rode around with Daddy for awhile, and they used one of the blue walkers. But after going around the ice twice she let Daddy know he didn’t need to hold on anymore, she had this. And she did really well! She was soaked from falling in puddles, but she didn’t even really feel like she needed the assistance of the walker. She’d sometimes just head off without it. At one point, she and Serenity both had one of the walkers and were trying to spin in circles. Maia’s wasn’t spinning fast enough so she let go, jumped in a circle, and then promptly slipped and fell into a puddle, but not before a pretty cool jump move.
They had a reindeer experience this year. We went in, saw the reindeer, and they also had these letters to Santa you could fill in and put in a fancy mailbox. Donovan was filling his out, and it gave you three choices, "good all the time," "good some of the time," and "naughty but nice." Eric asked him which one he thought he was and he said "I guess... good some of the time.... does that mean I don't get any presents?" 😂 😍 🎅 Honesty ✅ We don’t really talk about Santa much but I guess he knows how it works.
Since ice skating was the plan for the day, I decided it was also a good day to unveil our new inflatable. I went to Home Depot hunting for a Halloween inflatable, but they had the Christmas ones out and I couldn’t pass up the polar bear after Maia’s adorable Halloween Polar Bear costume.
We also went to a restaurant for dinner! And the kids ate and had decent manners. Although Serenity didn’t really want to use silverware, we worked it out eventually. And no other tables were disturbed by us which is good enough for me. =)
