When I asked Donovan what kind of play date he’d like to have with his class, he didn’t want craft, or science, or gingerbread houses, he wanted Legos! It took me forever to decide what to do, but when I found little penguin minifigs it all worked out! I made three stations. On our big table, I spread the blue canvas (extra points for using it twice in December after making it for Serenity’s first birthday, yay hoarding =) Then I poured out all our white and blue legos so the kids could make habitats for the penguins. They turned out SO cute! And everyone got to take home a penguin friend =)
The next station was the zipline station. I tied strings to a pvc pipe structure, and the kids built lego ziplines that they could zoom back and forth. I had a lot of fun with this one, and Maia loved it. She kept letting the string go and the structure crashed to the ground, so I had to work at making sturdier zipline devices =) Serenity and DZ are still building different zipline projects, and figuring out ways to make them work better! Yay experiments!
The third station was a lego car race track. I got a bunch of lego car kits and everyone got one to keep, and they could race them down a ramp Eric built.
It was so great having some of Donovan’s classmates over. I really like how their class is shaping up, everyone seems wonderful, and the kids played together SO well! I hope we get to have a lot more days like this one!
