Serenity has been singing SuperCaliFragilisticExpialidocious this morning… I can tell because she says um diddleiddleidle um diddle I… but then she sings… Super California =)
It was pretty enough outside that we were able to go to a park for our Tuesday lunch with Daddy… and he taught Serenity to go up a short ladder between levels on the playground! It was amazing, after just a little help two times she was climbing up herself. Well, the next day I took her back to Whiteside park. We hadn’t been in a few months I guess, and the difference was amazing! The last time we came, I had to lift Serenity onto all the toys and structures, and watch her anxiously every second to see that she didn’t fall. Well this time, she was a climbing pro! She climbed up stairs and through tunnels and down slides all on her own! All that practice at Papa’s sure paid off. But that wasn’t all! She was able to climb ladders on her own, with just me spotting her really. She even went up the rope ladder on the pirate ship! I only had to really catch her one time. Of course, once she was up there I had to follow quickly as there is an opening that leads to a down ladder that she could walk right off and fall four feet. So there is still some panicking, but she can get onto and off of the train and fire truck by herself!! She has grown so much! She especially loved when I slid down the tunnel slide after her, she’d peer up the tunnel with a big grin watching for me to slide!
(At this moment, she is climbing onto a chair in the office, saying “You can DO it Serenity, you can do it! You did it!! Clap clap clap” All aloud =) She learned cheering on Super Why =)

Since we were snowed in this weekend, we made the most of it by pulling out some new games and toys. Eric, Serenity and I made big cardboard racetrack for her car. While Eric was drawing the roads, Serenity kept trying to guess what letters he was writing and yelling them out. E! Draw E! T! T! O! Ohh! It was hilarious. We colored a pond for her duckies and some grass for a farm for her ponies. She loved using the real markers and colored pencils, which I usually make her sit in her high chair to use. One section is covered in circles and squares because she loves to get me to draw them for her, especially circles. She’ll pick a color and say, “Blue Circle, Blue Circle” over and over until I draw it as requested. =)
She also randomly decided that Daddy is a slide. He was sitting on the mattress we’re using for a couch with his knees up. She climbed in his lap, we thought to sit with him, and then threw herself headfirst off his knees saying “Whee!!” And then when she hit the ground, she hopped up and said “Do it again!” It was too funny =)
I pulled out play-doh for the first time this week. She loved making stars, and using the rolling pin to squish the dough. Then I started rolling snakes for her and she loved that too! She’s good about putting all the play-doh toys back in the tub when she’s done.
We attempted a little puzzle I got off of one of my home-schooling blogs. I had gotten foam letter stickers from the dollar bin at Target, and I made a long paper with all the letters written in order. Then Serenity tried to match the letter on the paper with the foam letter. She did most of the letters, and really liked it =) She even tried to keep moving the foam letter until it lined up properly with the written one. We didn’t do the whole alphabet, I helped toward the end. It’s supposed to help her get used to seeing the letters in order.
We’re starting to work on learning a few sight words. Mostly because she’s still completely addicted to letters, but she already knows all the letters and the sounds they make. So I guess we’ll start moving to word recognition. She’s pretty good with cat, dog and girl. Sometimes she gets sun and star =) I think we’ll work on -at words for a while this week. She doesn’t really get the idea of sounding them out yet, although she can make each of the sounds. It will be neat to see when that concept makes sense! =)
We joined music class at last! We went to a sample class last fall, but the timing was off for her. It was too close to naptime, and she was still in a “put every single thing in your mouth” phase. This time, when we tried it, it went really well! I was really worried that she would object to having to put the toys away in the buckets after each song was over, but she followed the instructions fairly well! I think it will be good for her to have a time with a little more structured play, and getting to see the kids. Plus it gave us all kinds of great ideas and songs to enjoy all week! She especially enjoyed “yum yum yum, applesauce is good” and “clicking sticks.” I noticed her tapping her sticks like we did in class this week, and I sang lots of the songs to her. I hope her musical development isn’t hindered by my tone-deafness. We’ll see =) It’s all fun so far!
This morning in her high chair she started asking for Tina. Out of the blue, she said “Up high, Tina! Down low, Tina!” It’s amazing how much she remembers, and I love that she talks about what she’s thinking =)
