Today we celebrated Maia's first birthday. Her party was filled with twinkling stars, family, friends, crafts and a little craziness. =) The theme was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. That is my go-to lullaby, and Serenity named her Starfish before she was born, so the theme was easy to choose. Her birthday tent twinkled in one corner, and she visited it a few times to read books, first with Daddy and then with Aunt Kelly. Reading books is her favorite thing! She will listen endlessly to books, and now she even brings them to us to read. I love her so much =)
We took all the Christmas ornaments off the tree, and I hung a banner that read "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." During the party all the guests made star ornaments. They turned out really pretty, I'm not sure if the tree is ever coming down! Raegan especially made a lot of cute ornaments. And Grandma used her Zentangle skills to make a very beautiful ornament!
I made lace crowns for party hats, which I think more adults wore than kids. =) Maia thought hers was fairly tasty. I also hung stars everywhere, which will eventually decorate Maia's new room. And I printed her monthly picture that I took of her in Granny Hale's chair.
I got a bunch of flashlights and punched holes in papers to make constellations, but the kids mostly preferred to run around with them. My kids played flashlight tag with them as soon as they were allowed to touch them in the morning.
Food-wise I kept it simple. We had Maia's favorite food, berries. Strawberries and blueberries. And donuts =) We sang Happy Birthday, and while there was a candle I didn't light it. Maia actually ate her donut! However, while trying to pull the headband out of her hair and then put it back on, she completely saturated her hair with the icing. It was solid sugar hair gel, and gave her a pretty spectacular spike.
We had fishing out in the garage. All the guests have been to a lot of our parties so they are all professional fishers =) Only Maia needed help.
The Richards stayed to play with us for the rest of the day. I just love that our families enjoy playing together so much. Eric got to play lots of games, including Forbidden Desert and Apples to Apples. I got to visit and finish up the stars with Abbey. Maggie, Serenity and DZ spent a lot of time playing dress up, and I saw them all in the Ice Palace (formerly the mermaid mansion) up in the kids room, all dressed in Elsa blue. We also learned some valuable Minecrafting tips from B. =)
Such a wonderful day!!!
