June was such an amazing month! It included our Fantastico celebration, which I will be writing special updates for, but there are a few things that were special for just Serenity, so I want to go ahead and do her normal post today =)
6/9 Serenity stuck a paci in her shirt so she could give Maia "milk"
7/2 Serenity's dance recital was the last day of May. We stayed in the same class for an entire year, so I was very excited about the recital. It was a jazz tap class, which we chose because her friends Harper and Wren from school could take it as well. Serenity liked it a lot, but I think if we do dance again it should be ballet. Just the way she moves when she's dancing at home feels more like ballet or lyrical movement. She likes the elegant, fancy style of dancing better. That said, I was really proud of her at the recital! She said she was a little nervous about dancing in front of a lot of people, but she went right up and did her dance moves like a pro! It was adorable and so much fun to watch the Mambo Mamasitas. Her songs were Mambo #5 (the disney version) and Shake Sonora. We had some trouble at her last recital in class, the top popped off of Serenity's maraca! She cried, especially because there weren't extra maracas. But we just collected all the broken maracas and I fixed them with some dowel rods, hot glue, and lime green duct tape =) Then Jennifer, Harper's mom used the green tape on all the other girls maracas together to be sure there would be no incidents during the real thing =)
Serenity had her summer camps this month. The first was all about the Zoo, and she loved studying about all different animals. The second was called Awesome Australia. Mrs. McBride does such an awesome job with these camps. Serenity came home talking all about the great barrier reef, the outback, all kinds of interesting things about Australia! I think the reef was her favorite part though.
We did some fun crafts this month. We painted with our feet on some long paper outside. The kids loved the weird feeling of paint on their feet, and I wished I was doing it as well! We used those paintings to wrap our Father's Day present to Eric. We colored him a racetrack shirt! The kids decided what places they love to go to with Eric the most, including the park, University School (Serenity loves it when he drives her to school), Turkey Mountain and our house. We also included a gas station to fill up the cars. =) Then the kids colored in all the buildings. Eric loved it! He loved it even more when he realized he could get a nap and play with the kids at the same time =)
My favorite thing this month though was that I got to read the first Harry Potter book with Serenity!! She LOVED it!! We had been to Sophia's Harry Potter birthday party, and I read the first three chapters of Harry Potter that day!!!!! And she read chapter four on her own after I left. SO EXCITED!!! There are not enough capital letters and exclamation points to express my excitement. She was giggling every other sentence by chapter three and just bouncing when the letters started flying out of the chimney. After we read the chapter on the Mirror, Serenity said in the Mirror of Erised she would look like a unicorn. =) And Serenity's response to finishing the first Harry Potter: squealing when they won the house cup, cheering "Harry, Harry!" and then she said, "Where's the second book?" Perfect.
