Maia is a month old!  I haven't posted from her journal yet, but there are lots of pictures already on the site thanks to Daily December =)  So here are the stories about Maia I haven't shared yet, and a few pictures from January!

Maia Year One 2013

12/26/13

Maia is one week old!  She is such a sweet and contented baby.  She barely cries yet.  If she gets really hungry she'll fuss a bit, and she objects to diaper changes, but neither of those last long.  Of course, she is still in the sleepy stage, barely waking up to eat at times, but she gets more alert every day, which thrills us all, especially her siblings.  Donovan sang her a lullaby today, and whenever she makes a peep he asks, "What happen to baby?"  Serenity warns us all the time to watch out for Maia, don't ever step on her or hurt her.  She comes and cuddles in the chair, and is the first one to jump up if Maia needs something.  She tries really hard to hold her head up when she lays on your chest, and when Eric does tummy time she can lift it enough to turn it to the other side.

We took Maia to the park today.  She was all snuggled up in the Moby wrap, and it was nice, except when the wind blew.  Might have overstimulated her a bit though, because this evening she very clearly demanded Mama.  She has quite a piercing little squeal!  It doesn't really sound like crying, it's more indignant than that.  She was fine when I was holding her, but it took her a little time to fall asleep, which was new.

I was holding Maia, and rocking her, and thinking it's just magic.  Holding your baby, knowing that they want you.  She fits just perfectly snuggled on my chest, and I can rest my cheek on her little head and hold her close.  It's bliss.  I really think I took time to savor and enjoy all three of my babies, but knowing this is my last tiny baby makes it just a little bit poignant too.  I love my family sooo much!

Maia had her two week well baby checkup!  She's up to 9lbs 3oz, which is way past birth weight! (7lbs 14oz, which dropped to 7lbs 6oz)  No more need to try and feed her at night if she's sleepy, yay!  She's also up to 21.5 inches, which is an inch and a half of growth in two weeks!  She's definitely growing just fine.  She's already starting to fill our the little sleeper I bought to bring her home from the hospital, which she just seemed to swim in when I put it on her that first day.

Maia smiled at me today =)  After sleeping nearly the entire day yesterday, probably to make up for having run one too many errands the day before, she woke up ready alert this morning.  I was sitting with her on the couch, chattering nonsense and smiling big smiles since she was so awake, and she smiled back!  I didn't really believe it the first time, but she did it three more times.  She hasn't done it since then, but that was her most alert time of day.  I think she's smiled at the kids as well, but I don't know if it was because they were smiling at her or if she was just happy.  She's also making cute cooing sounds.  It's just adorable.

We went to Science Saturday and she was a big hit. She got to meet a lot of friends there! She is really cute, all snuggled in the Moby.

She's had a little bit of a stuffy nose this week.  Just enough that she wakes herself up whenever I lay her in her crib.  By the time this passes she won't know how to sleep anywhere but the swing or in my arms.  She's just so snuggly it's hard to care about that though. She puts Eric to sleep every time he holds her in the chair, even if he's not tired at all.  I love that he enjoys her so much.  He's such a great daddy!

Maia has had two baths now.  She doesn't seem to be a fan yet, so we've kept it pretty quick thus far.  Donovan still asks, "what happen to baby?" anytime she makes a noise of any kind, so he's quick to defend her when she's unhappy about something.  Thankfully, that hasn't been often yet.  =)

Maia is four weeks old today!  She is such a sweet baby, and she is absolutely adored by everyone here.  I love snuggling her and touching her hair.  It's so very soft!  She is having longer alert periods, and seems fairly content just lying on the floor looking up at the sky or the fan.  Today I had Donovan bring us some books to read to Maia, which had the bonus effect of Donovan listening to books during the daytime.  Usually he's too busy running or playing board games for books in the daylight.  =)

She fills out the onesie I bought to bring her home from the hospital now.  She was swimming in it when she was born, and just a month later it's just right.  She's growing so fast!  She has been an easy baby so far.  She never really fusses for me, and if she's fussing with someone else she usually just wants to eat and rest and even that doesn't happen often.  Her normal lullabies are Christmas songs.  She was born in the season for my favorite music, so I'm taking advantage and keeping the carols going.  =)

"Donovan's here baby, Donovan's here" =)

Love swaddled snuggly babies! =)

Daddy's last day before going back to work... he got as many baby snuggle naps as he could =)
