Serenity really loves books! It’s really hard to make a list of favorites because there are just so many that I’ve read dozens of times this year. And I think she likes getting new books even more, so the list of things we’ve read is getting really long! So I decided just to write about a few of her favorites that have special memories attached.
Richard Scarry’s Best First Book Ever: Serenity has started asking to have “bed books” every night that she reads to herself after we leave her in her room. One night Eric checked on her and found her sound asleep with this book in her lap, and it’s one of my very favorite pictures I’ve ever taken of her. =) We have read this book so many times, and she asks for it often!
I Love You: This is a collection of books, including “I Love You Through and Through,” and “I Love You Stinky Face” among others. It has six different stories in it and is really long, and yet she wanted me to read her the entire thing, sometimes multiple times in a night! At one point I wondered if she was just dragging out her bedtime book time by picking the longest book she could find. But she really does love it, and whenever we read it she would say “I Love you Mama!” over and over. =) It’s so sweet!
I Can Read books… (Dora, Tangled, Strawberry Shortcake): We have dozens of these books. At first I bought them because the stories were simple enough for her to listen to but slightly more complicated than picture books. Starting around Christmas though she could read them to herself! Now she hardly ever needs help figure out words in them. I still read them to her at times, but she also does it herself. Sometimes if we’re on a long shopping expedition we’ll grab one of these little books for her to entertain herself.
She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain: This was a library book that was a huge hit! The best part was that every verse had funny movements to go with it. I think Serenity’s favorite part was when the little girl says “Tee hee” and covers her mouth and giggles. She still does all the motions even though we checked this book out months ago!
Little Pea: This started as a library book but we had to add it to our collection because we loved it so much. The first ten times I read it Serenity giggled uncontrollably when Little Pea said candy was “yuck, bleck, plk!” It really is a funny book!
Tinker Bell Guide to Pixie Hollow: We still love Tinkerbell, and now our favorite game is to pretend that we are the different kinds of faeries. She decided Grandma is an animal fairy, Daddy is a water fairy (because he’s in charge of bathtime) Mama is a garden fairy, and Papa is a tinker fairy. Serenity is all the fairies at different times =)
Super Why Books: We have five or so different Super Why books, and we still read them even though she has them memorized. We read them more often than we watch the shows these days. It’s funny, she really pays attention to all her books, and if you say a word wrong, she’ll say “I’m sorry” and won’t let you turn the page until you do it right! Once, Eric was reading a sentence and said “mountains.” Serenity said “I’m sorry” so he looked again and read “mountains.” She still wouldn’t let him turn the page and he finally realized the word was mountain, not mountains. =)
Llama Llama Holiday Drama: These started as library books, but I got her the holiday one for Christmas. Llama is funny!
Little White Rabbit (Kevin Henkes): We checked out Kitten’s First Full Moon from the library, so when I saw this one at Easter I had to add it to our collection. They have such great pictures and stories!
Harold and The Purple Crayon: This is a book Serenity got before she was even born. I had no idea how long it would be before she’d actually enjoy reading it, but I thought it would be longer. She was asking for purple books one day so we pulled it out. She LOVES it! I’ve read it probably fifty times in the last few months, and we requested several other Harold books from the library. It’s pretty long but we enjoy it over and over.

Big Sister: This is a recent one but she loves reading about a big sister just like her! =)
