Life Skills Boot Camp: Home Maintenance
Maia was SO EXCITED about Home Maintenance week for Like Skills boot camp! . She woke up early on Sunday and strapped on her tool belt! She walked me through all her tools and added a flat head screwdriver to her collection. She practiced hanging pictures, using her own level and my stud finder. I had hung up this deer At Christmas, and it wasn’t centered properly! I thought it would be coming down in January but decided I liked it there, and it’s no longer making me crazy thanks to Maia!

Then… she talked me into buying paint. I thought I had enough on hand for the kids to practice painting skills but she wanted to do her bathroom, and honestly, it needed it! She scraped away peeling paint, applied a bonding primer to help block the moisture so it shouldn’t peel again… and then I told her I had a packing job Monday so we couldn’t paint more until Tuesday. Well… she REALLY didn’t want to wait so she called her Papa Jess Bair and he’s always game for a home improvement project!!! The shower area is a beautiful Aloe turquoise .
In case you were in Lowes and thought you heard Gollum, that was just Maia proclaiming the paint to be PRECIOOOUUUSS
Painting prep skills and Ladder Safety! Don’t reach higher than you can comfortably balance and no using the top two steps.
Stud finder and hammer and picture hanging skills! This is a really light canvas but we discussed anchors or using studs for heavier pieces, and also the easy Velcro stuff. Amy Trachte Moore we’re good to come hang stuff any day 😉
We finished up Home Maintenance week with a field trip to Papa Jess Bair’s house so he could teach us how to use a lawn mower! He also set up a little wood project so Maia could learn to caulk! She is definitely the most enthusiastic builder 🥰.
Donovan prepped and painted a wall in his bathroom, and declared “now I know why they call it PAINting” 😂😂😂. So not as much fun but still learning useful stuff 😜
