Hi.

Welcome!

Vikings

Vikings

Maia SO badly wanted a turn at the forge, and the blacksmith returned just before we were planning on lunch. So lucky!

Viking for a day! On the Tunnelbana we saw a sign for the Swedish History museum and we decided to try it. So much fun! We got to wear armor, bake Viking bread over a campfire, write runes, shoot arrows, walk a labyrinth, work a forge, in addition to exploring the whole museum!

Sera and I thoroughly explored the Viking history section. I was so impressed by this exhibit. Every display had a touch screen where you could read the exhibits in Swedish or English, and get close ups and descriptions of each artifact. Plus they had 3D printed some of the items and had descriptions in braille so you could touch them. Some of the areas even had smells! Plus there was a touch screen game to build a Viking boat so you knew just how many trees, sheep, horses, and bog iron it would take.

Baking bread with a Viking recipe! You could add butter, honey, anise, fennel, cumin or parsley too! This little jacket and stuffie got left behind at the museum, and Maia was thrilled when it was still at the lost and found a few days later when we went back that direction.

This little guy was at the heart of the labyrinth

Sera made me a necklace with the rune for M, for Mama. And human 😜

Making rune necklaces

Dyed with Madder, Woad… and I already forget the yellow

Shearing sheep for the boat. It would take one person 3 years to spin enough thread for a sail 😳

Pretty jewelry! We also really loved reading about the Norns 🤩

Maia wrote her name 🙂 maybe.

John talked with the docent about translating runes. Fascinating!
