December 23rd: Baking day

December 23rd: Baking Day! Winky found a good spot to watch from .

Maia and I attempted two recipes from her book. The reindeer Bakewell tarts were delicious! Probably the cutest thing I’ve ever made too. However they dipped in the middle so there’s way too much icing, better if you scrape that off. But now I can say “I love a Bakewell tart” just like they say on the great British baking show!

The second recipe was probably too much baking for our attention span. The flavor of the lemon cinnamon swirl cake was just ok and I got distracted looking for the cake tester so they were very overdone! The marshmallows Serenity decorated for the top were so cute though so I made a quick batch of cake mix cupcakes to put them in. . Serenity also made swirly colored Rice Krispie treats!

We took some of our treats to Mom and Jen! Mom showed Maia a scrapbook page of me baking with her when I was Maia’s age. Maia loved it! And then Mike and Kelly came by with this awesome charcuterie board which is just what I needed to recover from baking day . I didn’t even eat an entire tart but I’m not used to sugar .
