Serenity Spring 2019
Cartwheeling with the daffodils =)
March
DZ and Serenity saw the Dino and wooly mammoth I made for the book fair and made a pterodactyl this morning from the cardboard scraps 🥰 Book Fair next week!!!! I can’t wait 😊
Serenity went to the school dance! She dances more than anyone! She basically danced from the time they turned the music on until we had to leave to let the older kids have it to themselves. She danced mostly by herself in the center of the dance floor. So cute. Arjun dances really well too but they don’t really dance together.
April
On Friday and Saturday my Girl Scout juniors are going to do their Amuse journey! This involves thinking about the roles people play and how stereotypes can affect their choices. Part of the journey involves interviewing women in different roles. I can’t predict exactly how this discussion will go, so I’m not sure what people they would need to speak to. They might want to talk to lawyers, scientists, artists, actors, doctors, teachers, mothers, writers, I’m just not sure! But who in my friend list would be open to FaceTime or text with my troop if they have questions you might be able to answer? If you’re willing, please let me know! 💕Serenity ended up calling our friend, Sasha Martin, and talked to her for a long time about being a writer. I love hearing about her dreams!
Flurry of Roles! This game is designed to expand the ideas of what kind of roles you imagine you could be. There are dozens of roles stuck to the wall, and you grab ones that you think you can be and put some on your friends as well. She was happy to get botanist and zoologist, writer and artist and songwriter. I think she didn’t agree with game creator. We also played games like charades to act out new roles.
I had my own AR workshop! The girls made these frames with slogans reminding them to forget stereotypical expectations, that they can make their own way.
Serenity’s is the top right
The junior journey was combined with our end of the year party. The girls wanted to tent camp! They did so well in the backyard maybe we’ll consider a tent camp out in the fall. I survived too with several sleeping bags. They didn’t exactly listen when I warned them it would get cold at night. In the morning I unzipped all my sleeping bags and covered all the shivering girls with an extra layer.
We also made these troop t-shirts! I had each of the girls pick adjectives that described them, and cut the vinyl with my silhouette. Serenity’s starts with Dreamer and Nature Girl. I love her so much!
Dreamer, Nature Girl, Silly, Joyful, Yojful, Troop 44. Also notable, she is addicted to the Wings of Fire books! I was THRILLED that she read every single one I had!
Balloon powered car badge: This was a big hit with the girls, probably because it involved the inventor box. They all wanted me to video them with their cars =)
Field trip to Gathering Place: Perfect day for the gathering place! No crowds and a beautiful day! They played hide and seek but fortunately found everyone. Then Shawn got locked in the bathroom and there was another round of hide and seek. Serenity had just finished reading the entire Wings of Fire series and she is making her own story about dragons, the Gemwings! She told me all about it on the field trip. It’s really amazing, I hope she writes it down one day!
Serenity made this by fingerknitting her fingerknitting. It’s an entire skein of yarn!
Serenity has a new crafting addiction! Earlier in the year she was clay crazy, making tons of charms and tiny figures. Now she’s learned how to finger knit! I got a little kit in the dollar bin at Target to make a finger knit bunny. She loved it so much she dug in my yarn stash and finger knit an entire skein of yarn into a huge snake! Then she knit the knit snake into a scarf. So cool! She loves it so much she taught her whole class how to finger knit for a class project report. She’s met Daniel in the park so they can finger knit together. It’s so awesome! Mrs. Lindsey is letting her use up the yarn she has at school. All the teachers are using up supplies since they have to pack everything up for the new carpet and paint the school is getting, and serenity is enjoying every minute.
She and Daniel met at the playground for a finger knitting play date. So fun!
Grandma got chickens! Maia, Serenity and Donovan got to name them. Moon, Sunset, Kaos, Maia were a few of the names. Kaos Chicken kept trying to eat the other chickens. Chickytita was my pick =)
The girls and I went on a full moon hike at the botanic garden! It was beautiful, but I should have brought more flashlights, the trail was dark in the woods! We used my phone and grouped up with another family. We saw armadillos! And everything was beautiful at night.
We found this cool nutshell that had a heart inside!
Serenity bought a fuzzy reading chair with her Christmas money =)
One game Serenity loves, Boggle with Dr. Hollingsworth at Family Game Night
Making mini terrariums at DZ’s baseball game out of trash
Sometimes Serenity and Maia are so cute!
Serenity is very proud of her ability to pick people up… not just small people like Maia. She tries to pick up her older cousins too. And sometimes her Daddy!
The wait at the DMV for passports was long, but the kids kept themselves entertained well, thanks to Wings of Fire! We got several compliments for having kids that read actual books =)
