Cousin Cooking Camp
Cousin Cooking Camp
I have been thinking the kids should do more in the kitchen, and Maia longs to get to cook and bake things. So when Jen offered to do a Cousin Cooking Camp while Braley was in town we were thrilled!!! And it was AMAZING!! She is such a great cook and a great lesson planner too! The food they made was yummy and Maia has used the recipes and skills several times since then! They had three days of fun!
Day 1: Cooking camp with the amazing Aunt Jen Thorp Zandbergen! They taste tested cheese, learned to grate, and made a sauce starting with roux! So cool! Three different batches with customized cheese and noodle combinations 😁. Maia and Braley stayed after and made cupcakes. Vanilla cupcakes with a lemon blueberry icing. The icing was experimental with fresh berries. It turned out a little thin but the girls said it was tasty.
Maia was extremely excited about the ELBOW noodles
Sharp Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Mozzarella, Pepper Jack, Colby and Colby Jack. They used different combinations. Maia thought hers needed more salt so she added Parmesan.

I can only assume Jason is rubbing his hands in excitement at the mac and cheese feast!

Barrett was a huge help!
She ate the whole bowl!!!!
Day 2: Cooking camp day two! Puff pastries, muffins, biscuits with fresh butter and hash browns! All with their choice of toppings and ingredients:) my kids went for the fruit, Braley and Carson went for chocolate chips 🙂 😋
Barrett taught at the hash brown station
Fresh butter!!!
My kids ate a LOT of new things this week!!!!
Day 3: Cooking camp day 3! The kids and Jen Thorp Zandbergen made dinner and dessert for all the parents! They even decorated placemats for us 🙂. They made salad, tomato and mozzarella skewers, three different kinds of pasta with a tomato sauce or Alfredo sauce from scratch, and fresh bread! Then they made four kinds of sheet cake. Chocolate sheet cake, gluten free sheet cake, nut free sheet cake, and strawberry sheet cake for my kids that don’t yet eat chocolate cake 😋. It was amazing! Maia especially wants to learn to cook so I’m so grateful she got to learn so much! We spent the rest of the night watching the goats enjoy the playground Jason Bair and Jess Bair built this week and then playing games and jumping on the trampoline. We’re going to sleep really well 😂
Casey told Maia when she took a skewer that she couldn’t have any, so she put it back and then looked at him like, really? He gave in and said she could have some so she quickly took six and was going for the rest before we stopped her ;)
Maia had a little accident with the cake. She and Barrett were mixing the frosting and when she tried to unplug it the glass bowl fell and shattered. She learned it’s ok to make mistakes while cooking and they improvised with powdered sugar and chopped strawberries. It was delicious!
DZ helped bake bread!
I love my placemat!
Maia discovered broccoli is pretty good smothered in Alfredo sauce
Aunt Jen is the best!
