Halloween Fun!
Halloween Fun! Donovan and Serenity decided they wanted to be My Singing Monsters this year. This kind of costume is the best because it means I get to make stuff! Originally Maia was going to be a monster too, but then she got really into reading Rainbow Magic Fairy books so she ended up as a fairy. So I dressed as a fairy with her and Eric went as a Mammott, with just minor alterations to his polar bear outfit. He was VERY thankful for the Mammott face mask because Halloween was freezing! Donovan’s costume was finished first. He wanted to be a Shugabush because Shugabush plays an instrument and he got to use his ukulele as part of his costume. It was perfect because I had the green fur fabric leftover from a teacher appreciation centerpiece. I just sewed two strips together for the vest, and use a strip for each leg. We got him some new brown jammies as a bottom layer and I decorated a hat we had with the flower. SO FUN! Serenity wanted to be a Pom-Pom. It’s a bright pink cheerleader monster. We ordered a pink furry jacket but the first one came from China and I didn’t notice until it was already on the boat, so we ordered a furry robe and I made sure that was eligible for prime shipping! All I had to do was take off the sleeves and use them for leggings, and then stitch up the bottom to make it the right length and to add fullness to make it the right shape. Her hair was a challenge, but after trying to make the ponytails right with her actual hair, we ended up with fleece ponytails on a headband. I think it turned out great! Plus some face paint to turn her face pink and add a beard to DZ. They were so cute singing together! They rehearsed and taught Eric his part =)
Maia went as Evelyn the Mermicorn Fairy. We ordered a mermicorn and she used the bag we sewed the year Serenity was a Rainbow Magic Fairy to carry the book with her, so she could show people who she is. We added some purple hair to give her enough length to braid, and went shopping in Serenity’s closet for the jean jacket and sparkly skirt. She had a skirt but since it was cold the longer one was very welcome!
They had a blast trick-or-treating! Our neighborhood had a scavenger hunt at the playground, and I honestly think that was their favorite part. Eric took them door-to-door, and they lasted longer than I thought! Maia came back first and helped pass out candy. They asked for candy for breakfast for two weeks but I think they’ve eaten all their favorites because I haven’t heard them asking for it for the last few days ;)
