Great Wolf Lodge

We planned a little adventure for the end of January!  Eric wanted to go to Dallas for a Destiny tournament, so we all went with him and visited the Great Wolf Lodge too!  The kids were thrilled.  The older two remembered the Great Wolf Lodge from our last Fantastico, and had begged to get to go again.  They have great waterslides, and the MagiQuest game is a blast.  Donovan had been sick on Thursday, but he just threw up once, never had a fever and seemed ok except for not having much appetite, so we went ahead on the trip.

After we checked in, we got dressed in our suits and went to the waterpark.  I’d been a little concerned about keeping up with all three of them by myself, but they were great!  We all stayed together and rotated between the various pools and activities.  We did the lazy river, the kid splash pools, the wave pool, and the smaller two waterslides that Maia was big enough for.  It was so much fun!  And I managed just fine, despite being a little slow still from my gallbladder surgery at the beginning of the month.

After that, we started on our MagiQuest.  We ran up and down the steps chasing all the magic quest components and casting spells with the wands.  Each of the kids got a wand, and Maia and DZ got belts to hold them.  They all loved finding parts of the quest and we managed to finish this time!  A few of the quests were broken so we got past them automatically though, but it filled our whole visit so it worked out great.  The final quest was to use all the spells we had collected to defeat a bad guy by casting them in the right order.  It was really HARD, even for me, but Donovan and Serenity both managed it!

By dinner time the first day, everyone was tired!  We went downstairs to the little restaurant in the waterpark that sold chicken strips, which took FOREVER.  Maia even fell asleep sitting at a table waiting for the food.  I should have been more suspicious at that time, because as we rode back up in the elevator, me carrying a huge tray of food, Maia threw up.  It was a huge mess, but all I could do was mutter soothing noises and rub her back while holding everyone else’s food until we got off on our floor.  Then we stumbled down the hall, and I sent Serenity running ahead to open the door and start taking the food.  Poor Maia got rinsed off in the tub.  Then we discovered why Donovan’s sickness was short-lived.  He just avoided eating while sick at his stomach, while Maia was an optimist.  She kept feeling a little better, eating food, and throwing up more.  All night long.  Poor baby.  We managed ok, and Eric actually won his tournament.  He took the older kids swimming in the morning, and I took them to finish the MagiQuest.  We even carried Maia to finish one more quest on the way out, and she was content with that.  Then we drove home with me in the backseat holding a trash can in case she needed to be sick again.  The funny thing is, we really did have fun for most of the day.  And even though we all had turns with the plague (and poor Don, who hosted us on the way in before we could check in at the Lodge), we still love the Great Wolf Lodge =)
