Electronics Free April 2018
We went to the Botanic Gardens again during Electronics Free Month. The whole electronics free thing is still challenging, but we always look back on all the fun we have this month and decide to do it again next year. =) This visit we spent mostly walking the trail. It was a great day for it! Rainy and muddy and FUN! I definitely prefer it to scorching hot =) The kids were all geared up in rain jackets, with umbrellas and rain boots so we thoroughly enjoyed our hike.
We also did some more involved crafts than we’d been doing lately, like our crayon melting project. The kids LOVED this and I really want to do my own as well. =)
We played a lot of board games, including some we hadn’t really gotten to with the kids yet, like Ten Days in Asia. I love that game so it was really exciting that Serenity and DZ could play it without help, and even Maia could with just a bit of help!
I pulled out all the legos and sorted out several of our old kits for Maia to do. She LOVES legos! She can really follow along with the books and put them together herself too. I got out the pieces for Elsa’s castle, and we set up several other princess kits. Then I went through and collected nearly all the lego elf sets and we kept building those all month! It was so much fun!
We had lots of swim lessons for Maia, baseball practice for DZ, and Girl Scouts for Serenity to keep us busy. In fact, I finally went through Troop Camper Training, and we went on our first Girl Scout campout! I’ll write more about that on Serenity’s Spring page, but it was SO much fun! I built my first four campfires this month =) One at training, and three with my girl scouts!
In April Serenity went to the School Dance! It had been just for upper school kids for the last several years, so it was her first one! She had a lot of fun! Lillyan came to the dance with us, and nearly all of third grade was there! Serenity and Arjun danced a lot! Not together, of course. Arjun has some serious dance moves, and he was right in front dancing with style! Serenity danced with her own twirly moves, and I love it! It’s so graceful, beautiful, and brave! She loves making up her own movements.
We also surprised Daddy with a send off party for Worlds! He went to the Destiny Worlds tournament the first weekend of May, and he was thrilled with his Star Wars party and all the posters the kids made him to encourage him!
The Spring Book Fair was a little late this year, the first week of April. I helped decorate again. Since the theme was Paws for Reading, I made a doghouse for Clifford. Clifford visits all our book fairs, so it was perfect =) On crazy sock day, Maia put her ponytail into a sock! Serenity liked that so much she asked for “sock buns” Piggy buns with socks tied around them. Too cute!
Dress like your favorite character from a book! Laura Ingalls Wilder, Princess Twilight Sparkle, and a Dragon who LOVES Tacos!!!!! =) Donovan and I sewed up that taco very quickly to make that costume and it was SO cute! I can't believe he's had that dino costume since his second Halloween when he was 1 year old!
Teachers in Oklahoma went on strike because of poor classroom conditions and salaries. Our teachers didn't strike as we are in a private school, but we wanted to show our support for our teachers too! We all made posters and hung them up around school. The kids LOVED this project. They are so fortunate to have such wonderful teachers!
We've had lots of Girl Scouts Fun too, but that deserves it's own post =)
